    The United States has formally recognized the importance of Black History for more than 100 years. What started as a weeklong observance in the early 1900s has blossomed into the month of events, activities, and celebrations we now see each February.
    But how did we get here, and what does it mean to celebrate Black History? How do we reconcile America’s legacy of racism and oppression with its founding principles of freedom?
